Process: Legal Representation

A.    DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS:
The client retains the lawyer for all purposes with respect to the dispute or proceeding.  The lawyer becomes solicitor of record for court purposes.  The client signs a Retainer Agreement agreeing to pay the lawyer’s fees and setting out the responsibilities of both the lawyer and the client.

B.    POSSIBLE ADVANTAGES:
The main advantage of legal representation is that the client has the advantage of legal representation throughout the process.  This allows for a streamlining of process options and the client has the benefit of the lawyer’s advice and representation throughout.

C.    POSSIBLE DISADVANTAGES:
The greatest possible disadvantage of legal representation is that it will likely be very costly to have legal representation throughout a contested legal proceeding.
