Quy earned his Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, after completing a Bachelor of Arts, with a Double Major in Economics and Political Science from Dalhousie University.
Quy and his family immigrated to Canada in 1984 from Vietnam. Quy's experiences of growing up with parents that were not native to the country and did not speak the language have made him realize at a young age how challenging life can be for people who do not have the proper legal representation in Canada. Although all Canadian citizens have rights and laws that protect them, without proper legal representation a person can become victimized or lost in the legal process. A large part of a lawyer's job is getting the prosecutor, judges, or jurors to understand the entire story of what happened - not just the snapshot that is reported by the police or witnesses.
